We at The Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel are committed to minimising the environmental impact of all our activities.
Actions taken by the hotel include:
1: Energy
- February 2012 - installed 20 solar panels to hotel capable of generating 3000 kwh of carbon free electricity per year, saving 1,630kg of Co2 emissions.
- Our electricity is generated from 100% clean renewable sources
- Low energy lighting throughout, with timers where appropriate
2: Resources
- Minimisation of waste through purchasing. 2000 plastic milk cartons eliminated by switching to glass bottles. Soap, conditioner and shampoo bottles in bedrooms all refillable
- Glass, cans, plastic bottles, paper, cardboard etc. is collected for recycling and all appropriate kitchen waste composted
- Wherever possible, local, fair trade and organic products are used
3: Policy
- Recycled paper is used in all stationery as well as for toilet tissues
- Heating for communal areas is provided by a new super efficient (2006) condensing oil fired boiler
- 250mm of loft insulation installed throughout the building
- 10% discount to any guests who arrive by foot, bicycle or public transport
- 5% discount to guests who arrive by car, are staying for 3 nights or more, and who surrender their car keys for the duration of their stay
Guests can help us by:
- Re-using towels where possible
- Turning off lights/television and closing curtains, depending on the season, when you leave your room
- Turning down room heating if it is too hot or if you are leaving the room
Suggestions on how we can improve our environmental performance are most welcome.
